2021 Wyoming Live Race Dates Approved

September 25, 2020

During the Wyoming Gaming Commission meeting held Thursday, September 24, 2020 in Casper, Wyoming the Wyoming Gaming Commissioners approved the request by state operators to conduct 50 live race dates in Wyoming for 2021, the most races to be run in Wyoming for decades, if ever.

Wyoming Downs requested an increase in days from 16 to 18 days total, Saturdays and Sundays, starting June 12 and running through August 8 at the Evanston, Wyoming racetrack. The increased number of horses and horsemen with the competitive environment will translate into a better wagering experience.

As proposed by Wyoming Horse Racing, LLC they will run 16 days at Sweetwater Downs in Rock Springs including August 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 28, 29 and September 4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 18, 19, 25 and 26. The higher purses they provide draws significant participation from Wyoming horsemen and the surrounding states. They also submitted race dates for 2022 and 2023 that were approved as well, at the Rock Springs racetrack.

307 Horse Racing, LLC is the newest permittee to get approval to operate from the Commission and will offer 16 live race days at Energy Downs in Gillette for calendar year 2021. The race dates will be May 22, 23, 29, 30, 31 and June 5, 6, 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26 and 27. The Commission felt the new permittee has the knowledge and expertise to offer a quality and safe product, as well as adding additional racing opportunities for the horsemen in the Cowboy State.

The Wyoming Gaming Commissioners and staff were pleased with the outcome of the 2020 Live Racing Season during the COVID-19 Pandemic and praised Wyoming Downs and Wyoming Horse Racing on a job well done. Live Horse Racing continues to make a positive economic impact not only for Wyoming breeders and horsemen but for the State of Wyoming.
